TAXODIUM distichum COMMON BALD CYPRESS
The bald cypress is a long-lived, pyramidal, deciduous conifer, and a cone-bearing tree. It is one of the longest living trees in the world and its rings hold years of climate data. Unlike most cone-bearing trees, bald-cypress loses its needles each winter (thus its name 'bald') and grows a new set in spring. The russet-red fall color of its lacy needles is one of its outstanding characteristics.
